Learn about the candidate views on issues of importance; and ask your questions at the 5th Congressional District Candidate Forum. John McGuire (R) and Gloria Witt (D) invited.

Both candidates for the VA 5th Congressional District race were invited in July. Ms.  Witt has accepted and just before this printing, Mr. McGuire declined the invitation.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from the candidates. Register to vote or update your voter registration on the spot with the League of Women Voters.

Gloria Witt
Democratic Candidate

Gloria W

Raised on a small farm in Amherst, Gloria Witt learned the value of labor early, working in tobacco fields and performing daily farm chores. Her father, a union steelworker, stressed the importance of education, leading her to earn a degree from Randolph College and a 32-year career with a global energy company. After retiring, Gloria founded Define Success Coaching and has remained active in her community, including serving as NAACP Amherst Branch president. Motivated by threats to basic freedoms, she is running to protect women’s rights, strengthen Social Security, and to ensure equal rights and freedoms for every citizen. Gloria believes in standing together to secure a better future for the people of the 5th district.

John McGuire
Republican Candidate

John McGuire was born and raised in Central Virginia. As a child, he was abandoned and spent his early childhood years in the foster care system, attending nine different elementary schools. John understands that teamwork is one of the greatest keys to success in life. From his experience in the SEAL’s, running a successful business, and raising a family, John knows that by bringing people together anything is possible through hard work and determination. As a member of the Virginia General Assembly, John has always focused on good policy, not politics. As a husband and father of five, he understands the importance of building a true partnership between our families, our communities, and our government. John and his wife, Tracy, currently reside in Goochland County with their dog, Remi.

The program will be moderated by former SSV Board member, Bob Beard.
